CREATING KNOWLEDGE—DISCOVERING WHAT WORKS

ASCENT promotes research that seeks optimal methods of empowering multicultural women and maximizing their effectiveness within organizations. This helps ensure that as we seek to do right, we do well, that investments in human capital are productive, that business objectives are thoroughly understood and rationally pursued.

Working in partnership with business practitioners, leading academic researchers challenge existing paradigms that frame multicultural women as victims and instead seek a truer vision of them as a powerful resource. Our primary focus is the measurement of our Executive Fellows' advancement, including those factors that empower them and those that inhibit their progress. Both quantitative and qualitative tools are developed in collaboration with our research advisory committee and subject to peer review to ensure rigorous methodology and accurate results.

We disseminate the findings of this “action research” directly to our corporate partners and the larger business community through symposia, articles, and other publications. We also create translation mechanisms with the media and policy organizations so that the authentic experiences of multicultural women cut through the interference of preconception and distortion.

Among our activities and objectives are:
  • a research clearinghouse
  • journalists roundtables
  • limited-access research for our corporate sponsors
  • scholar-in-residence programs
  • publishing partnerships
